Former pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. outclassed Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in their "Number One vs Numero Uno" showdown at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines).
Judges saw it 118-109, 120-107 and 119-108 all in favor of the unbeaten Mayweather, who knocked down the tough Mexican with a left hook to the head.
Mayweather, who has temporarily retired for two years, showed no hint of ring rust as he outpunched Marquez all through out the fight.
"I've been off two years... he's tough. He's tough as nails," Mayweather said in a report posted on FightHype.com.
The Mexican tried pressuring the former pound-for-pound king with multiple combinations but Mayweather is just too fast for Marquez.
Marquez had success in landing blows on Mayweather in the fourth round but suffered a small cut in the process.
Mayweather pressed the action in Rounds 9 and 10, punishing the mexican with ripping punches. The Mexican, however, continued his valiant stand as he tried matching Mayweather blow by blow.
The durable Mexican remained standing in Rounds 11 and 12, weathering Mayweather's furious attacks. Marquez, however, came short on points.
Compubox statistics showed Mayweather landing 290 punches out of 493, a far cry from Marquez's 69 out of 583.
Mayweather also landed 105 power punches out of 177 while the Mexican champion only connected with 48 out of 295.
The decision has given Mayweather his 40th career win. Marquez, on the other hand, absorbed his fifth loss in 56 fights.
The fight also saw Mayweather using his size to dominate the smaller Marquez. Mayweather came in at 146 pounds on Friday's official weigh-in. The Mexican tipped the scales at 142 in the fight described as a welterweight bout with a catch weight limit of 144 pounds.

  1. I hope that the next bout of Money Mayweather will be Manny Pacquiao.
